Summer 2014

Posted on 22 May 2014 in Pub | Comments Off on Summer 2014

As the days get longer, things continue to grow at The Milk House – including Polly the puppy, who isn’t so pint-sized anymore. Our beer selection is still expanding and last week we refreshed our wine list for the coming season. This week we’ve been bathed in Kent’s glorious sunshine, and have been making the most of the weather with fresh summery salads, asparagus from Frogshole Farm and Bodiam ice cream.

Our garden redevelopment has picked up pace – the terrace has been laid, the plants are in the ground and our new garden furniture has arrived just in time for the bank holiday weekend. Soon our pizza oven will be up and running too serving homemade pizza, perfect for sharing (or not!) around our large family-friendly community table. We loved working with Robin Chiles at Mounts Hill Woodcraft and Design, who oversaw the construction. We hope you’ll enjoy whiling away the summer hours at The Milk House with a jug of Pimm’s, a cold beer or a glass of rose!

Speaking of rose, from 24 May to 1 June we’re looking forward to celebrating one of our favourite weeks of the year – English Wine Week. We’ll be marking the event by offering a selection of wines from Kent’s renowned vineyards, including Chapel Down Winery, Biddenden Vineyards and the Hush Heath Estate.

With our passion for local produce, we’re proud to have recently become affiliated with two schemes championing food, drink, services and tourism in Kent – Visit Kent and Produced in Kent. We’re really looking forward to making the most of these partnerships by continuing to support local suppliers and we know you can taste the difference!

Our final piece of news is that there are only a few days left to enter the Wealden Times’ competition for VIP tickets to the Wealden Times Midsummer Fair and a night’s stay for two at The Milk House with a delicious lunch or dinner and Prosecco. You can enter online via the Wealden Times website. Good luck!

We’re thrilled that summer is now upon us and we’d like to thank everyone who’s supported our exciting venture and welcomed us into the community. It’s been a pleasure getting to know you all, and we look forward to continued happy relationships with customers, producers and suppliers. If you’d like to join the team, we’re always looking for enthusiastic members of staff. You can find out more about the jobs available at www.themilkhouse.co.uk/careers
