We hope you’ve been enjoying the weather! Everyone’s been in high spirits here and it’s been splendid to see groups of families and friends congregating on our terrace, with plenty mad dogs and Englishmen enjoying the midday sun…
Our new Summer Dining Menu has gone down a treat with tasty seasonal dishes packed with fresh local ingredients. The new ice cream, from Sublime – just down the road in Marden – has certainly lived up to its name and has been devoured so fast that it’s barely had a chance to melt.
Meanwhile, our pizza menu has been such a hit with al fresco diners that we’ll soon be introducing a children’s option, with ‘Dairy Calves’ and ‘Happy Piglets’ to accompany their parents. And just in case the weather reverts to a more traditional English mode, we’re now serving pizza throughout the bar, in addition to across the terrace.
We’ve also welcomed a new artist in residence: Kate Chitham from Frogshole Farm in Biddenden, who works from ‘seed to paint to plate’ – a practice we whole-heartedly support!
Our plans for ‘Milk Fest’ are falling into place too – you may have spotted the banners in hedgerows near you! From Friday 22 August until Monday 25 August, we’ve got a fun-packed weekend lined up to coincide with the Sissinghurst Village Fete, the Bank Holiday Weekend, and – of course – our first anniversary!
On Friday 22 August, we’ll be kicking things off with a celebration of all things Italian – and the menu is now available on our website at www.themilkhouse.co.uk/#milk-fest-2014. With six courses and wine to match, there are plenty of delights in store – from Prosecco and pecorino to Rocca Rosso and risotto – but don’t forget to book! Gastronomic delights aside, you don’t want to miss the musical accompaniment…
On Saturday, we’ll be enlisting the services of fabulous local face-painter Joanne Pow for our family fun afternoon. The Cranbrook Operatic and Dramatic Society will be entertaining the kids while Mrs Back to Front performs Punch & Judy shows and magic! We’ve finally booked the bouncy castle too, after our exhaustive efforts to find an inflatable cow fell through…
We’re also delighted to confirm that, on Sunday, Kingswood Cider, Wise Owl Cider and Jake’s Orchard will be joining us for our Cider Festival where Kent’s best cider will be on offer for you to sample (for research purposes, naturally). We’ll also be offering special TMH pulled pork baps to help you soak it up…
Then on Monday 25 August, we’ll be pulling pints at the Sissinghurst Village Fete. But back at the pub, with ‘Happy Hour’ from 5–7pm, we’ve lined up the wonderful singer-songwriter Elle Roberts with her bluesy acoustic sounds. Elle’s performance will be followed by the Devil’s Cut Combo who’ll be performing their rockin’ combination of early 50s, R&B, Blues and Boogie Woogie.
It’s going to be quite a weekend, and we can’t wait to celebrate the best things in life – food, fun and family – with the community and beyond. There’s much more planned, so do keep checking our website for details!
If you’d like to enjoy Milk Fest from the other side of the bar, we’re always looking for enthusiastic members of staff to join the herd! You can find more details about vacancies on the careers section of our website www.themilkhouse.co.uk/careers
Finally we’d like to thank everyone who took the time to nominate us for the Kent Life Food & Drink Awards. We’re delighted to let you know that we’ve been shortlisted in the Newcomer of the Year category and, whether or not we take home the trophy, your support means a lot to us!
We hope to see you soon.
Best wishes,
Team Milk House
