Milk Fest 2014

It’s official – there’s nowhere more glorious than the Garden of England in the sunshine. From village fetes and foodie festivals to English Wine Week and the Midsummer Fair, we hope you’ve been making the most of this beautiful part of England. Our garden and terrace have been bathed in the warm summer sunshine – long may it last!

Our Summer Dining Menu is only days away, full of fresh Kentish flavours to help us all make the most of the season. And our pizza oven is HOT… in many ways! From 12 – 9pm every day, including Sunday, pizza and flatbreads are rolled and topped with delicious local produce and they’re fast becoming a must-have with a pint or Pimm’s.

In the spirit of summer celebration, we’ve also been making plans for a fun-packed weekend at the end of August – a Milk Fest… We’re using our (nearly) First Anniversary as an excuse to celebrate with the community and beyond with FOUR days of food, fun and summer frivolity for all the family.

The weekend-long party will start on Friday 22 August with an evening revelling in all things Italian, and Mediterranean sunsets available on request… In the bar and on the terrace, we’ll be serving pizza and gelato, with a band of mellifluous tenors in tow. Meanwhile in the Dining Room, we’ll be offering an Italian tasting menu with wine to match the food. The menu will be posted online shortly – remember to book in advance!

The fun continues on Saturday 23 August with an afternoon packed with family-friendly activities – there’ll be the obligatory bouncy castle and face painting (of course), along with garden games and a Punch and Judy show. There’ll be candy floss, too, and generous scoops of local ice cream to keep energy levels up, though parents might prefer a cold glass of summery rose to keep blood pressure levels down… We’ll finish off the evening with a screening in the bar for the children. The combination of bean bags and popcorn might even mean there are snoozy little ones to take home once grown ups have enjoyed a drink in peace!

On Sunday 24 August, we’re having a Cider Festival where you’ll have the chance to enjoy some of Kent’s best cider in the sunshine. We’ll also be adding pulled pork baps to our Sunday evening menu for one night only to help you soak it up.

Then on Monday 25 August, it’s the Sissinghurst Village Fete!  We’ll be pouring more pints down there, and at the end of the fete we’ll be keeping the celebrations going back at the pub. So join us for a drink and enjoy a mini festival with local bands and musicians to help you make the most of the Bank Holiday Weekend.

With all this on the horizon, this weekend The Milk House are at the Kent County Show in Detling. Head chef Dane Allchorne will be cooking a delicious Kentish breakfast. You can find us in the Why Farming Matters In Kent tent on Saturday 12 July at 10am. There’ll be plenty for everyone and we’d love to see you there!

Best wishes,

Team Milk House
